The
main difficulties that may emerge during the Giangukai
project involve language and technological problems.
The first problem may arise when children from different
countries begin communicating in different languages.
Infact, with such young children it will be impossible
to rely on a lingua franca.
Thus, it is necessary to establish communication
where the use of written language is limited, whilst
diagrammatic languages (such as pictures and drawings),
non-verbal languages
(such as music and dance), or even oral
languages (such as songs and nursery
rhymes) dominate. Short texts accompanying the materials
on which the online exchange is based will need
to be translated, but it should be borne in mind
that the intercultural exchange must occur regardless
of the written language. Thus, it is necessary carefully
to select the themes and subjects on which the intercultural
exchange will initially be based. In fact, using
mainly written communication trivialises communication
itself and renders it interculturally poor.
The other main difficulty relates to drawbacks of
online communication technology. Therefore, the
communication organisation and the pedagogic and
didactic models must be simple, in order not to
discourage the various participants, especially
those not familiar with the internet and with multimedia
in general. Thus, it is necessary to stress that
the project does not have any computer literacy
purpose: the new technologies are only instruments
to carry out intercultural exchange, which is the
most important aspect of the project. |
