AWARENESS OF CONVENTIONS
Conventions allow the coexistence of human groups - even very large ones - through the creation and acceptance of common rules.
The sharing of rules (behavioural, legal, etc) and codes makes it possible to communicate, to manage, and to overcome conflicts within groups. Flexibility and the capacity to listen and communicate are essential to reach an agreement on such rules.

The definition of conventions implies sharing meanings, searching a common territory, having a ‘cultural mediation’ capacity. Conventions are not absolute. They can be modified according to the changes in thinking patterns, in behaviours and, more generally, in the historical and social needs they come from.
Again, by way of example, in order to develop a sense of conventions it may be useful to study methods of measurement in each country – of time (the various calendars) and of distance (the mile, the kilometre, etc), and also ways of measuring length, area, volume/capacity and weight.
